The Apple of His Eye
Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. Prov. 31:10 (NKJV)
Recently, I received a forwarded e-mail. Now, I am not one to continue the "forwarding" process, but I did find value in this little tale. Women are like apples on trees. The best ones are at the top of the tree. Men don't want to reach for the good ones because they are afraid of falling and getting hurt. Instead, they just get the rotten apples from the ground, which aren't as good, but easier to obtain. So, the apples at the top think something is wrong with them when, in reality, they are AMAZING. They just have to wait for the right man to come along - the one who's brave enough to climb all the way to the top of the tree. (Author unknown) There are so many women who do not fully realize their value. Some go into marriages "settling" for what they feel is the best they can do. There are others who stay in abusive marriages because they feel they are not worthy of real love. Others look for their own self-worth in men, and end up in promiscuous relationships. Some even resort to homosexual relationships out of disappointment with men. Unfortunately, too many women do not get a good jump start in life. Perhaps they lacked the encouragement and grounding of an earthly father, or were abused by the very man they trusted with their whole heart. Nonetheless, you have a Father who cares! You can seek Him at any point in your life. No matter how many mistakes you've made, or years you've wasted, God has already climbed to the top of the apple tree and is reaching for you. You just have to let go! He alone determines your worth. He knew and loved you before you were even born. He formed you Himself in your mother's womb (Jer. 1:5, Job 31:15). You are precious to Him! Even as a Christian, I sometimes struggle with my own sense of worth. During these times, I remember how the Bible clearly tells me about my value to God. |
Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
(Mat. 6:26) Then He said to them, "What man is there among you who has one sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out? 12 Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep?" (Mat. 12:11-12) But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. (Lu. 12:7) You are the apple of God's eye. If you are married, I encourage you to seek your value from the Lord, not your spouse. Ask God to meet your needs. Deepen your relationship with your Heavenly Father through reading and meditating on the Word. Even a few scriptures a day will put you in touch with your Source. If you are single, God is your husband for this season. The Bible says it is good to be single, because you can devote your life solely to the Lord. For most, singleness is only a season, so take advantage of this special time. Pray out loud, "God, I know You love me more than any human possibly could. You even know the number of hairs on my head. Your grace is sufficient - in You, I lack nothing. I have the strength to overcome situations that hold me back. Give me courage and patience to allow You to prune the dead branches from my life that hinder my relationship with You, and growth as a woman of God. Lord, fill all voids in my heart with Your wonderful love. Cleanse me from sin and doubt, allowing me to walk in the victory of wholeness and love for others. In Jesus' name, Amen."
